Distance 2.5 miles (4 km)*. Fairly level except for small bridge over conveyor belt - easy walk
This walk starts are Moor Green Lakes car park, heads South to the river, then West along the river to Longwater Road, turns briefly North before heading back along the Lower Sandhurst Road. When walking along the Lower Sandhurst Road do take care, particulary on the blind bends! Occasionally after wet weather the first part of the River walk can get a little muddy. As this area has not yet been restored, the landscape may change.
As of 2013, if the Lake level is too high a short stretch of the path floods to the North of the sewage works (with water not sewage!) before joining Longwater Road. See description for alternative route.
1 Starting at Moor Green Lakes Car Park, head South down either the footpath on the left or the bridle way on the right of the hedge (see picture in Walk 1)
2 Cross the bridge adjacent gate to the Colebrook Lake bird hide
3 Continue heading South until you reach the River, then turn right
4 Follow the river using the riverside path, crossing the small bridge that goes over the conveyor belt.
5 As you approach the sewage works the path splits (see picture). Take the right hand fork and continue to follow the path round the lake until you reach the main road
5 Alternative. If the Lake level is high, take the left hand fork instead of the right fork and continue until you reach the main road.
6 On either approach when you reach the main road, turn right and start walking up Longwater Lane
7 You will pass a field on your right, which has a footpath at the top. Turn right thought the gate onto the grassy footpath (see picture below)
8 Go through another gate, and then join a spur of the Lower Sandhurst Road
9 Continue East along Lower Sandhurst Road until you reach Moor Green Lake Car Park.
